Advance Math Classes: Periods 4 & 6
I will post what we will be working on each week in class, dates of tests, videos to watch, additional practice.
HOMEWORK: Each week I will pass out a Weekly Homework Sheet on Monday and we will check each nights homework the next day. I will post the homework on this website in case a student has forgotten or lost theirs. They can either print it out or write each problem out on notebook paper. All work needs to be shown either on the sheet or on a separate sheet stapled to the back.

- Homework-- I have been posting homework on this website, but it does not seem to be working. Extra copies of homework can be found on the board of my classroom.
- Benchmark--5th Grade Math Benchmark will be this Thursday and possibly Friday in math class only. Depending on how far along everyone is will depend on if we go into Friday.

- Unit 4 Test - Friday, October 28 - Dividing Decimals by A Whole Number with standard algorithm and models
- This is a quick turn around from the last test, but the concepts very in line unit 3.
- October Choice Due Friday
- Dividing Decimals Advanced - extended learning with dividing decimals by decimals and three ways to write a remainder. (this will be a quiz next week, will not be on test)
October 17

- Math Review Quiz Thursday - concepts of multiplying, prime/composite, multiples, solving for x -adding and subtracting
- Unit 3 Test - Friday, October 21 - whole number dividing with 2 digit divisors
- Review Sheet for Test: Due to the success of the advanced classes I will no longer be giving bonus for a parent signature towards the tests. Instead I will give 5 bonus points on an extra test question that will be posted on the board during tests.
- Dividing Decimals - Divide with a whole number divisor and a decimal dividend. They will be able to have answers to the hundredths place.
October 10

- Grades Due Oct 14th. - The end of the nine weeks is this Friday. Any missing assignments have been communicated to the student several times. I will put in a zero in the grade book today and change it only if I receive the missing assignment no later than Friday.
- Division with Estimation - There is not one exact way to estimate with division. As a class we went through several different strategies.
- Pages: 204-205, 207
- Expressions and Equations - student will learn to solve equations for a unknown quantity (variable). They will also be able to interpret what different expressions mean.
October 3

- Models- practices extending our knowledge of all the ways to multiply decimals
- Unit 2B Test, Multiplying Decimals : Wednesday, October 5
- Review Sheet will be completed and checked in class. If a student gets a signature by parent and returns it Wednesday they will receive 5 bonus points on test.
- Whole Number Division - We will start a new unit on dividing 4 digit by 2 digit whole numbers. We have already started this concept on math review, so students should have a basic understanding already.

- September Choice - Due Friday - If a student has not finished their 3 selected problems they may complete it at home. This will be a daily grade.
- Think Through Math - this is a computer program that students will use during station work and can use it at home. This program places students in lessons based on how they did on the benchmark test they took today (Tuesday). For lessons they complete they earn game time and points. Points will be used to earn the class a pizza party.

- Unit 2A Test Friday - Whole Number Multiplication with some questions on content covered in Unit 1
- Review sheet will be completed and gone over in class on Thursday. If the student has their parent sign it and they return it on Friday they will receive 5 bonus points on the test.

- Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers and Decimals: Pages 69-70, 73-74
- September Choice: At the beginning of each month I will pass out a tic tac toe choice board to my advanced classes. Each student is to complete three scenarios and turn them in at the end of the month. This is great for higher level thinking, researching, and giving the student the opportunity to have choice in their learning. This is an assignment they will work on in class as they finish other in class activities. Here is a link to see what it is about: September Choice

- A cd was passed out in class on Wednesday which is a digital copy of the math textbook. This is a great resource for extra practice. You can either print out the sheets or write them on notebook paper. I will put the pages next to the topics from now on.
